In our Irish class, the Transition Years have been preparing for Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish Week) for the week of Monday the 13th.

The students wrote down and discussed what fun events to undertake with certain year groups from Crana College which inluded the following:

  • Making ‘Seachtain Na Gaelige’ posters to promote the activities
  • Ensuring we have the necessary equipment for the games
  • Bingo
  • Irish dancing
  • ‘Seanfhocal’ Poster competition
  • Irish charades
  • Gaelic

As the week of St. Patrick’s day nears, having a week dedicated to the Irish language and Irish traditions adds excitement for this coming Friday.

By simply offering the students in Crana college a chance to play popular games in the Irish language, it will help boost their Irish vocabulary and possibly help with their Irish studies as well as having fun whilst doing so.

As well as managing a variety of Irish themed games, there will also be a ‘Green Day’ or ‘LΓ‘ Glas’ held on the Thursday, before St. Patrick’s Day. The best dressed student will receive a special prize for their outfit, awarded for the effort they put into their wardrobe!
